Representatives from a number of Welsh organisations met on the Urdd Eisteddfod field in Carmarthen last Thursday to discuss ways in which they could co-operate in the campaign for a new Welsh Language Act and how to put further pressure on the Welsh Assembly Government on this matter.

Urdd Gobaith Cymru calls for a review of The Welsh Language Act. The aim of Urdd Gobaith Cymru is to ensure that all the young people of Wales are given the opportunity, through the medium of the Welsh language, to develop into mature individuals, and to empower them to play a constructive role in the community, by encouraging personal and social skills.

During the forthcoming Urdd National Eisteddfod week pupils, parents and governors will be contributing to a special file – on display at the Cymdeithas yr Iaith unit – calling on the Assembly’s new Minister of Education to give a fresh start for Village schools.

History will be made on Monday when a Criminal Court goes into session for the first time ever on the field of the Urdd National Eisteddfod. The Court of Community Rights – organised by Cymdeithas yr Iaith – will be in session at 12.00 Monday 28th May outside the unit of Carmarthenshire County Council on the Eisteddfod field in Carmarthen.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith are calling on Eifion Bowen, Head of Planning at Carmarthenshire County Council, to end the process of allowing Property Development Companies to prepare their own Impact Studiese on the Welsh Language.

This morning (Mon 14/05/07), Carmarthenshire County Council will be announcing a plan to take out two more Welsh-medium Village Schools – Llanarthne and Llansawel.

At 10am today, members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith visited County Hall, Carmarthen, to present a summons to four leading councillors and officers of Carmarthenshire County Council.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has today called upon Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats to ensure that New Labour does not continue to ignore the Welsh-speaking areas of Wales following their meltdown in these areas.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have alerted the people of Pont-Tyweli that the proposal to build 50 houses in the village has been re-submitted to the County Council. The initial proposal was submitted in December 2006 but was withdrawn in January 2007.
