Cymdeithas yr Iaith has said that the lack of action by the United Kingdom Government to stop the genocide that is happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza, and the fact that the Government is now silencing the voices that draw attention to the oppression, is a clear statement of its stance - and it is our duty to respond.

The organization has said that it stands in solidarity with individuals and organizations that act directly to draw attention to the part of the United Kingdom in crimes that are committed against the Palestinian people, and the increasing misuse of anti-terrorism laws to silence protesters who draw attention to that.

According to Josef Gnagbo, National Chairman of Cymdeithas yr Iaith:

"Instead of acting to stop the massacre in Gaza the United Kingdom Government has continued to sell arms to Israel. There has been no effort to pressure the Israeli Government to end its blockade of international humanitarian aid or for a ceasefire and peace across Palestine and Israel. Not only that, but the Government insists on silencing the voices of those who are willing to raise their voice, peacefully and democratically, against that massacre."

"That is an attack on the right to act directly for justice and freedom, which is a fundamental principle for us as an organisation, considering the essential role that protest and resistance play in the social history of Wales and the world. Wales must continue to be a country where people can stand up for justice freely, and Cymdeithas yr Iaith will always stand with those who choose to act, bravely and peacefully."

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has stated that it stands in solidarity with people who use peaceful protest to oppose genocide and persecution, and has called on the people of Wales to join the Red Line event, to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine in Aberystwyth on 26 July.

Joseph Gnagbo added:

"We will act for Palestine by joining the Red Line event in Aberystwyth. We are very concerned about the increasing attack on the right to protest peacefully and to act directly for international justice. We call on people from all parts of Wales to come together to stand in solidarity with other campaigners and support the Red Line event by organizations that support Palestine."
