Ahead of a discussion at Carmarthenshire Council's Cabinet meeting on Monday (23rd February)
Ysgol Llansteffan Parents and Teachers Association has appealed to the County Council not to recommend that full council approves the closure of the school this August.
In a letter to Cabinet members they call for the process to be stopped because:
- The Welsh Language Commissioner has not finished her investigation into a complaint regarding the language impact assessment of closing the school on the Welsh language
- No one from the Council has visited the school to establish the facts given in the proposal to close Ysgol Llansteffan
- There was no meaningful discussion of their exciting plans to develop the school into a Center for Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education
- That there are many factual errors in the report that will be before the Council
Carmarthen Region of Cymdeithas yr Iaith has supported the Parent and Teacher Association's call for the Cabinet at their meeting next Monday morning not to recommend closing the school. In a letter to the cabinet member with responsibility for education, the Cymdeithas says that the Objection Report to the Statutory Closure Notice has ignored Cymdeithas' argument that a number of children will be forced out of Welsh education.
