Cymdeithas yr Iaith contributes £1,000 towards humanitarian aid in Gaza
As the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip begins, Cymdeithas yr Iaith has contributed £1,000 towards Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) and called for a clear path to ensure peace, statehood, and rights for the Palestinian people.
The ceasefire comes as Hamas and the Israeli government agree to a proposed peace plan by Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, and for international humanitarian aid to be allowed to reach the Gaza Strip again.
Owain Meirion, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith said:
“At every step of the way, the government that represents us in Wales on the international stage - the UK Government - has been shamefully slow to recognize the right of the Palestinian people to self-government, to pressure Israel to end the war, and to work towards a settlement that guarantees peace, statehood, and security for the Palestinian people.
“Cymdeithas yr Iaith, as a movement, stands in solidarity with oppressed peoples wherever they are, and our struggle for justice is part of a global fight for justice. We have a moral duty to be a voice for the Palestinian people, and we hope that our financial contribution of aid will help alleviate some of their suffering.”
