The Mari Lwyd will join children, parents and governors of Meidrim School to knock on the door of Carmarthenshire County Council's headquarters promptly at 9am on Tuesday morning (13/01).

The Mari Lwyd will seek entry to present a New Year's card signed by all the pupils of Meidrim School, with a request that the Council make a New Year's pledge to work with local communities, rather than disregard them, in order to save and develop local schools.

This is to mark the opening of a statutory consultation on a proposal to close Meidrim School and Ysgol y Fro, Llangyndeyrn. The Governors of both schools and Cymdeithas yr Iaith are encouraging responses to the consultation, which will be available on the County Council's website.

Aled Davies, on behalf of Cymdeithas yr Iaith's Carmarthenshire Region, said:

"It is important that a statutory consultation is not limited to receiving written submissions only. It should be an opportunity for constructive discussions with the community.

"I hope that the Cabinet Member for Education, Glynog Davies, and the Leader of the Council, Linda Evans, will accept the invitation of the governors, parents and pupils of Meidrim School to come and discuss the exciting plans they have for the school."
