Plan for hundreds of houses in Bangor refused - Cymdeithas welcomes decision

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has welcomed a decision by councillors to refuse an application to build over three hundred homes in Bangor.

The language campaign group wrote to councillors recently reminding of their new powers to refuse applications that could damage the Welsh language.

Bethan Ruth, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg's local field officer commented:

"We welcome this decision, which we hope will benefit the language. The status of the Welsh language in the planning system has been strengthened recently and we're glad the councillors have taken advantage of that. Any housing developments should reflect local need and put communities' interests first, rather than the interests of developments."
