Gwenno back on the campaign trail!

Within a couple of hours of her release from Eastwood Park Women's Prison tomorrow morning (Wednesday 11th July), Gwenno Teifi will be back campaigning for a fit-for-purpose Welsh Language Act with a visit to the Senedd in Cardiff Bay followed by plans to address a large Cymdeithas yr Iaith demonstration in the north.poster-gwenno-porthmadog.jpg

20-year-old student member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith, Gwenno Teifi will be released from the Gloucestershire prison early tomorrow morning after serving 3 days of the 5-day sentence imposed on her on Monday by Carmarthen Magistrates for non-payment of a £120 penalty for painting the words 'Welsh-language Act' on the window of the Aberystwyth branch of the major footwear store Brantano in Aberystwyth in October 2006. She will receive the usual one-third remission off her sentence.Following her release, and a quick breakfast, she will travel to the Senedd in Cardiff Bay where she will be greeted by supporters at 11am and will present to her local AM. (Rhodri Glyn Thomas who is the former Chair of the Assembly's Culture Committee) a letter calling on the new Culture Minister in the Coalition Government to draw up a 'fit-for-purpose' Welsh Language Act which will ensure that large corporations make full use of the language. In her letter, she will warn of the danger of missing this historic opportunity with a weak Act which will not be able to tackle the current problems.By mid-day, Gwenno will be heading home to the Teifi Valley and start preparing for a major Cymdeithas demonstration which she will be addressing outside Tescos Porthmadog at 2pm Saturday.
