Cymdeithas yr Iaith have reacted with anger and dismay to Carmarthenshire County Council surprise announcement to begin immediate consultation over the future of the schools of Mynyddcerrig and New Inn. New Inn is a school that was not even on the council's hit-least of 40 schools for closure, and consultation was not intended to start on Mynyddcerrig school for another year.

TWENTY language campaigners staged a sit-down protest at an outdoor pursuits shop where a customer claimed he was told off for speaking Welsh. And they vowed to mount more demonstrations if store bosses don't agree to a meeting.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have demanded that Assembly Education Minister, Jane Davidson, meets a deputation from the society and concerned parents and governors of village schools in carmarthenshire to discuss the failure of National Assembly guidelines to protect the schools.

As Cardiff Council publish their strategy for re-organising schools in the city today, Cymdeithas yr Iaith has noted one aspect of the announcement that will surely embarrass Carmarthenshire County Council.

Cymdeithas yr iaith have received a complaint regarding the attitude of the Blacks store in Betws-y-Coed towards the Welsh language. On Friday 24/03/06 Mr Dilwyn Llwyd of Caernarfon and his partner went to the store with an inquiry. Mr Llwyd received a disrespectful and racist reply.
