Halt decision on schools until Education Secretary's announcement

Ceredigion Council's Cabinet will meet tomorrow (Tuesday 8th November) to discuss the future of schools in the Aeron Valley. Cymdeithas yr Iaith has called on councillors to postpone their decision until a key announcement is made by the Government's Secretary for Education on rural schools next week.

Ffred Ffransis on behalf of Cymdeithas' education group said:
"These are some of the communities with the highest number of Welsh speakers in Ceredigion, and are communities that want to keep their schools in their villages. Why is the Council rushing to make a decision to close four schools in order to create an area school on an unsuitable site? The decision would be in the interests of administrative convenience not the education of children or communities.
"Kirsty Williams is scheduled to make a statement next week on the future of village schools, one of the council's own scrutiny committees has acknowledged that. So we are asking members of the Cabinet to postpone their discussion on the matter until their next meeting in order to hear what the Secretary for Education has to say. "

The Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams, will make an announcement on rural schools in the Assembly next Tuesday (15/11/16)
