Cymdeithas yr Iaith have alerted the people of Pont-Tyweli that the proposal to build 50 houses in the village has been re-submitted to the County Council. The initial proposal was submitted in December 2006 but was withdrawn in January 2007.
Angharad Clwyd, Dyfed Field Officer for Cymdeithas yr Iaith, who lives locally said:"It is important that the decision, doesn't slip through by default, we therefore ask the people of Pont-Tyweli to send through their objection letters as soon as possible to make sure that the planning department at the County Council, listen to their views."Further to this, Cymdeithas yr Iaith are organising a public meeting to provide a platform for the local people so that the developers and the planning officers are aware of the strong feelings that exists locally. The meeting will be held on Tuesday the 17th of April at 7pm at the Power House in Pont-Tyweli. Amongst the speakers will be Rhodri Glyn Thomas, the Assembly Member representing the area, John Crossley, the local Councillor and Aled Davies, represnting Cymdeithas yr Iaith.Cymdeithas will also be inviting the developers and planning officers to attend the meeting to give them the opportunity to meet the community face to face and listen to their concerns.* The Unitary Development Plan only allows 14 houses for this site.* Planning permission already exists for 31 houses since the early 90s.* 28 of the 50 houses will be 3/4 bedroom detached houses that will sell for between £200,000 and £250,000.* According to the planning department, if this development is passed, 30% ofthe homes will be affordable, which means that 70% will be unaffordable.
