One of Cymdeithas yr Iaith's members is facing prosecution because police unlawfully denied her the option of signing a document in Welsh.
On Monday Mair Stuart, from Barry, became the 11th Cymdeithas member in a month to be arrested for painting the slogan 'A New Welsh Language Act - This is the chance!' on the Assembly Government building in Cathays Park, Cardiff.Officers at Cardiff Central police station had intended to release Ms Stuart with a caution. But when she realised the form in front of her was only in English, she refused to sign it, and is due before Cardiff magistrates on November 30 charged with criminal damage.Mair Stuart said:"The police have behaved abominably. I would not have had to go to court at all if South Wales Police had the necessary form."
