The 10-minute docu-film “Diwrnodau Olaf Ysgol Mynyddcerrig” (“The Last Days of Mynyddcerrig Village School”) will be shown immediately before Cymdeithas members discuss a motion to give active support to the first wave of schools in Gwynedd facing the Council’s axe this year.

The film may be viewed online here.Cymdeithas Education spokesperson, Ffred Ffransis, explained:“It’s about time that poiticians in Local and Central Government realised that they are messing around with the future of innocent children and vulnerable communities. They are only too happy to hide behind euphemisms such as “rationalisation” and “strategy”. We are taking this film on tour to show the traumatic effect and real cost of taking out our Village Schools.”A further motion calls on the new Coalition Government in Cardiff Bay to adopt a “new politics” by taking over school buildings to develop them as assets to regenerate our Welsh-speaking village communities in a way which would cut accross the old departmental boundaries.Full timetable available here (Welsh).
