Mae Cymdeithas yr Iaith yn cydnabod na ellid cynnal yr holl rwydwaith o ysgolion pentrefol fel y mae. Mae pwysau o bob cyfeiriad ar yr ysgolion ac nid ydym yn dymuno gweld dirywiad. Mynnwn fod llawer o ysgolion pentrefol sy’n hollol hyfyw fel y maent, ond ni ellir cynnal y statws quo mewn llawer o’r ysgolion pentrefol eraill. Cytunwn yn llwyr fod yn rhaid rhesymoli – y ddadl yw rhwng rhesymoli negyddol trwy’r broses di-ddychymyg o gau ysgolion NEU resymoli cadarnhaol trwy osod strwythurau newydd gan gydweithio gyda rhieni, llywodraethwyr a chymunedau lleol.
Yn y ddogfen hon, fe ddadleuwn dros RESYMOLI CADARNHAOL gan ein bod yn gweld pwysigrwydd allweddol yr ysgolion pentrefol i’r Gymraeg, i fywyd cymunedol ac fel modelau addysgol a allent fod yn flaengar iawn.
Cymdeithas yr Iaith recognises that the complete network of Village Schools
is not sustainable in its current form. These schools are under pressure from many directions, and we have no desire to see a gradual deterioration. It is true that many of the village schools are indeed viable institutions that perform well and as such should be allowed to flourish. In many other cases however the status quo cannot be maintained. We agree that rationalisation is required – the issue is whether it is the negative rationalisation offering the easy bureaucratic solution of closing schools and centralising education or a new positive rationalisation working with parents, governors and communities to establish new structures and functions making better use of the assets.
In this document, we argue the case for POSITIVE RATIONALISATION as we recognise the key importance of Village Schools to their communities, to the language, and as potentially progressive models of educational excellence.
