Cymdeithas yr Iaith has welcomed the statement by Dyfed Edwards, new leader of Plaid Group on Gwynedd County Council, that the draft plan for re-organising primary schools 'must be looked at again.'
The Society’s spokesperson on education, Ffred Ffransis, said"We welcome in particular the new commitment to work with schools and local communities rather than to force through an office-based plan from the centre. It is only from the bottom upwards that we can create the sort of educational frameworks which will strengthen our local Welsh-speaking communities and of which they will feel ownership.""We must say however that it is a spectacular under-statement to state “that there has been opposition to some aspects of the draft proposal” !! In order to restore trust, the Council must unambiguously set aside the Plan. Once that is done, we call for honest, open and creative discussions by all parties. We call on people to travel to Caernarfon on June 5th to the meeting of the Education Scrutiny Committee to ensure that the message is heard luod and clear."
