Following the close vote in the Full Council (17-14) last week about the proposed closure of all schools in the Llandysul area and establishing a school for ages 3-19. Cymdeithas yr Iaith, have made one final plea to Ceredigion County Council's cabinet members before their meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 6/7/10).
They were asked by the education scrutiny committee last Monday to consider alternatives for the Llandysul area. In the message to the Cabinet members, Angharad Clwyd, Dyfed Orgainser for Cymdeithas yr Iaith and a parent at ysgol gynradd Llandysul said:"This is a final opportunity to get united support for the bid for funding for a new site for Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi. We can all unite behind a bid for a new school with 900 secondary pupils in federation with the surrounding primary schools who's pupils could use the facilities of the new site. It is perfectly feasible that 900 pupils 11-19 age group could be attracted to the new school as currently only 45% of secondary pupils in the mid-teifi valley choose bilingual education where it is 70% in the Gwendraeth Valley. There are at least 200 extra pupils here as well as tens of pupils that go to Coleg Sir Gar.This alternative means we could get the best from every world and our last chance to get unity behind the application. The current division and biterness caused by parents being ignored is undermining Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi and the application for funding. Let's grab this last chance for unity."
