Cymdeithas yr Iaith has today called upon Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats to ensure that New Labour does not continue to ignore the Welsh-speaking areas of Wales following their meltdown in these areas.
Cymdeithas National Campaigns Officer, Dafydd Morgan Lewis said:"New Labour has been absolutely decimated in every single constituency which has a large proportion of Welsh-speakers and in Welsh-speaking areas of other constituencies also.""If New Labour had its way, it would undoubtedly wish to continue to ignore the Welsh-speakers who have totally rejected their party but that is no longer possible now unless it finds a partner in crime.""We are calling today on Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems to reject any pact with Labour unless there are guarantees of:* a meaningful Welsh Language Act;* affordable housing for young people in Welsh-speaking communities, and* safeguarding Welsh-medium Village Schools.""Everything must now change following this earthquake of a result in the Welsh-speaking areas."
