Two tons of 'Mynydd Cerrig' (Mountain of Stones) dumped at Council HQ

Protest Ysgol MynyddcerrigCymdeithas yr Iaith (The Welsh Language Society) kept their promise that Carmarthenshire County Council's Executive Board would not be allowed to steamroller the closure notice for Ysgol Mynyddcerrig without opposition. The Executive Board is due to meet in a public session at 10am to rubber stamp the officers' recommendation to issue a closure notice.

While the Executive Board were in closed session inside the Councty Council building, between 9am and 10am, a dumper truck driven by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Education spokesperson, Ffred Ffransis, tipped 2 tons of stones to block the vehicle entrance to the County Council building. He was aided by dozens of society supporters and parents from Mynyddcerrig who had come to witness the predictable debate.llun_protest_cerrig_caerfyrddin.jpgIn the meantime, Cymdeithas yr Iaith are asking members of the Council's Education Scrutiny Committee to 'call in' the Executive Board's decision.UPDATE: Carmarthenshire County Council Executive Board interruptedFollowing protests outside Carmarthenshire County Council HQ earlier this morning, where two tons of 'Mynydd Cerrig' (Mountain of Stones) were dumped to block the vehicle entrance of the County Council building, parents from Mynyddcerrig and members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith interrupted a meeting of Carmarthenshire County Council's Executive Board. The protesters expected to hear the matter discussed in full, but such is the contempt held towards Ysgol Mynyddcerrig, and village schools in general, the only mention of the closure was "All in favour of point 3?" and all of the Councillors voted in favour of closing Mynyddcerrig School.Cymdeithas acting Chair in Carmarthenshire, Iestyn ap Rhobert, shouted from the gallery that the proceedings, like the consultation, were a farce and that Councillors now had a chance to listen to the protesters affected. Parents followed the cue, by shouting from the Public Gallery their opposition to the closure plans.
