A key meeting was held on Monday morning, the 4th of February between representatives of Mudiadau Dathlu’r Gymraeg – Celebrating Our Language, and the Minister for Heritage, Rhodri Glyn Thomas. The formation of this new umbrella group was welcomed by the mimnister as it sees the first attempt to galvanize the efforts of 13 organisations across Wales to highlight the need for stronger legislation.

We were enthused to see many important developments being planned.""It is evident that there wil be difficult work in front of us to ensure that essential policy making powers in regards to the Welsh language, are devolved from London to Cardiff."The content and course of the Legislative Competence Orders is critically important over the next few years, so as to ensure a series of measures that will guarantee rights for the people of Wales, and their right to recieve services through the medium of Welsh throughout each sector in Wales.There are other developments that will ensure that this matter is discussed, and a dialogue developed, including the launch of a new document, ‘Creating a truly bilingual Wales’ by Cwmni Iaith tomorrow night in Cardiff Bay , and ‘Celebrating Our Language Events’ to be held across Wales, and organised by different members of Mudiadau Dathlu’r Gymraeg.Notes:Mudiadau Dathlu’r Gymraeg – Celebrating Our Language, is an umbrella group formed at the beginning of the summer in 2007The group includes 13 organisations : Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, FUW, Merched y Wawr, Mentrau Iaith Cymru, Young Farmers Union, RhAG – Parents for Welsh Medium Education, Cymuned, Cymdeithas yr Iaith, Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, Cymdeithas Alawon Gwerin, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg – The Welsh Language Society, UCAC, UMCA, UMCB.
