During the forthcoming Urdd National Eisteddfod week pupils, parents and governors will be contributing to a special file – on display at the Cymdeithas yr Iaith unit – calling on the Assembly’s new Minister of Education to give a fresh start for Village schools.
By the end of the week it will be known whether the file is to be sent to Jane Davidson or to her successor. The first contributions to the file have been made by school pupils of Ysgol Mynyddcerrig which is to close at the end of this term following the Minister’s rejection of their appeal.Speaking ahead of a protest at 12.00 Monday (28/5) at Carmarthenshire County Council’s unit on the Eisteddfod field, Cymdeithas Education spokesperson, Ffred Ffransis, said:"The County Council have been working hand-in-hand with the Assembly Government in the assault on our village schools. By rejecting every appeal the Minister has allowed the Council’s fraudulent consultation to continue.""Yet the Labour Party lost the support of practically every Welsh-speaking village community in this month’s election. They have no mandate to carry on attacking our village schools. We need a fresh approach now whereby the Education Minister will listen to parents, governors and other concerned parties and agree to an urgent meeting to discuss the crisis."
