Cymdeithas yr Iaith have called on the Education Minister, Leighton Andrews, to contact Flintshire County Council ahead of a crucial meeting tomorrow to advise them not to waste time and public money on developing a plan which would undermine Welsh-medium education. At 2.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 17th August) the Council will be discussing proposals which would force Welsh-medium schools in Treffynnon (Holywell) and Treuddyn to enter into formal arrangements and share resources with nearby English-medium schools. Cymdeithas will be supporting a Protest March against the proposals http://syfflag.org/page6.phpCymdeithas Education Spokesperson Ffred Ffransis commented:"Considering the effect of any Education Re-organisation on the Welsh language is one of the basic criteria laid down by the Welsh Government. So there is obviously no chance that the Council's proposals would be allowed on appeal. Therefore we have asked the Education Minister to intervene by sending the Council an urgent message to advise them not to waste time and scarce public resources in developing a plan which will not be allowed. The Council should rather work with Governors and Parents to develop Welsh-medium education as one of the corner-stones of their future plans."
