Mici Plwm has announced that his classic roving Welsh-language Disco will be back on the rails this year at a mega-gig at the Wrexham Central Station Club during the Eisteddfod in August. Back in the 1960s, "DJ Plummy" (Michael Jones, now based in Pwllheli) was inspired by the launch of Cymdeithas yr Iaith to throw out his collection of Anglo-American Pop music to launch the first Welsh-language Disco, and changed his name to "Mici Plwm"."Disco Teithiol Mici Plwm" visited clubs and Village Halls throughout Wales for two decades playing with the major Welsh bands of the time such as Edward H. Dafis. Mici himself took part in Cymdeithas yr Iaith's campaigns of direct action, and received a suspended 12-month prison sentence for climbing the Llanddona TV Mast in Ynys Mon as part of the campaign which led to S4C. Over the last 3 decades, Mici has had an active career in music, TV and the Arts in Wales, and now runs a PR company - www.miciplwm.co.ukOn Wednesday 3rd August, Cymdeithas yr Iaith will be holding a gig at the Central Station venue in Wrexham to proclaim 2012 as a Year of Celebrating 50 years of Welsh-language music and protest since the formation of Cymdeithas yr Iaith in 1962. Cymdeithas's organiser in the north, Osian Jones, explained"Mici Plwm has been there and has seen it all from the beginning to the present day, and it's brilliant that he's fronting this half-centenary gig which will include live performances from Heather Jones, 80s super-band Maffia Mr Huws, local 90s band Ian Rush as well as comntemporary bands Jen Jeniro and Gai Toms."Mici Plwm told those intending to come to the Eisteddfod:"Buy a ticket and get on board for a unique experience of 50 years of Welsh Rock and Protest. It'll all be there - the original Pont Trefechan protest, climbing the TV masts, and the many imprisonments. You'll see it all in film, photos on the big screen and in revolutionary music. Buy your ticket now to book your place on the Revolutionary Train at the Central Station, and it will be an experience which you will never forget. This is Mici Plwm's Roving Disco as never seen before. Get on board !"Tickets are available at £9 each online at cymdeithas.org/steddfod, and in person from Yales bar at the Central Wrecsam, Awen Meirion in Bala, Elfair in Rhuthun, and Cymdeithas offices in Caernarfon, Aberystwyth and Cardiff.
