Cymdeithas remain concerned about the independence of S4C following a meeting with Mark Thompson

bbc-mark-thompson.jpgWelsh Language Society members met with BBC Director General Mark Thompson, in Cardiff today to discuss the future of S4C.The Welsh Language Society is concerned about the independence and funding of S4C after the Westminster Government decided to change the way S4C is funded without any consultation.Following the meeting Bethan Williams, Chairperson of the Welsh Language Society, said that she remained worried about the situation:"We are concerned that the government and the BBC do not know what they're doing. We have asked the BBC to formally pull out of the deal with the government because they are putting the future of S4C in jeopardy and also to pull out of discussions with S4C as they are completely undemocratic.""We call on the BBC to respect the unanimous opinion of the four main parties in Wales by pulling out of the current deal with the government to allow for a full review of the channel before making any decision."S4C: Protestwyr iaith yn trafod â phennaeth y BBC, BBC Cymru, 11/03/2011BBC's Mark Thompson's pledge on independent S4C, BBC Wales, 11/03/2011
