Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has sent a list of 59 private companies to the Welsh Language Board which in the opinion of Cymdeithas should have a bilingual policy. This follows the appointment of Ifan Evans as a full time director with the Board, with responsibility for the private sector.
Dafydd Morgan Lewis, speaking on behalf of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg said:"Fifty nine companies were chosen, to match the 59 bodies drawn into consultation today by Alun Pugh the Culture Minister under the 1993 Welsh Language Act. While we accept that Alun Pugh has a few significant names on his list – such as the Post Office – we believe that our own list is far more relevant to the people of Wales.""Our problem is that we could have presented a list twice as long as this one to the Language Board's new recruit. But we must reiterate yet again that a stronger and more effective Welsh Language act is the only answer if there is to be any justice for the Welsh language in the private sector."1. Abbey2. Adams3.
