Reacting to the news that supermarket Lidl bans staff from speaking Welsh under some circumstances, Jamie Bevan, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg commented: "This policy is disgraceful, and illegal. Our officers have contacted the Welsh Language Commissioners office asking her to announce there will be an immediate inquiry into the company. Since the Welsh language law was passed four years ago it has been illegal to stop staff from speaking Welsh to customers who wish to communicate in the language."
