Welsh language campaigners have called for the National Assembly to be renamed with the Welsh-only name 'Senedd' ahead of a vote in Cardiff Bay.
A Government motion due to be debated on Tuesday proposes considering renaming the National Assembly and many politicians have argued for giving the law-making body the name 'Welsh Parliament'.
Manon Elin, rights spokesperson for language campaign group Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg comented:
"The word Senedd is one the public in general understands and supports. The name is already used widely among both Welsh and non-Welsh speakers. It would be a step forward for the normalisation of Welsh in public life as well. Naturally, there is a danger in just having a tokenistic use of Welsh; the name change should be part of a package of measure to normalise the use of Welsh as the main language of the Senedd and the country in general. We are meeting the new Llywydd, Elin Jones, soon and we look forward to improving the use of Welsh in our national democratic forum."
