Jamie Bevan, who was released from prison this morning, went straight from the prison in Gloucester to the picket and demanded a meeting with Jeremy Hunt regarding the future of S4C.Jamie Bevan was sentenced to 7 days in prison in Cardiff Magistrates court on Tuesday 23rd of August and was sent to Gloucester prison.Jeremy Hunt was in Newport to discuss the local television in the 'South West and Wales' areaBethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg:"It is surprising that Jeremy Hunt has come to Wales but has not made any pland to meet with anyone in Wales about S4C. It is totally obviousl that he is in a bubble and does not realise at all that the future of S4C is a huge talking point here in Wales and that there is clear agreement across Wales that the channel needs fair funding and independence. Jamie Bevan will come straight from the prison in Gloucester to the picket and will ask Jeremy Hunt to discuss with him the future of S4C. His department, the DCMS, are going to reduce their contribution to S4C by 94%, a cut that in totally unfair compared with the cuts that other broadcasters have received""How many meetings did Jeremy Hunt hold with News Corp about the takeover of BSkyB and how many meetings has he held regarding S4C? He refused to meet with us, 24 organisations in Wales, Trade Unions. Wales is nothing but a region to him, this meeting is a meeting for the 'South West and Wales' The Westminster government must wake up to the united voice of Wales."
