Saith Seren: Welsh Government to meet board members

Language campaigners have spoken of their hopes that the Welsh Government can help the Welsh language centre in Wrecsam, the Saith Seren, with their rental costs, ahead of a meeting between civil servants and management today.

Chair of the local branch of Cymdeithas yr Iaith in the area, Aled Powell, who wrote to the Government asking for support for the co-operative enterprise commented: "We very much hope the Government can support this project which is a great example of a bottom-up initiative which boosts the language. One obvious way they can help is by transferring the building from the housing association to the Saith Seren board. High rental costs are a problem; it doesn't make sense that the housing association, which is supposed to act for the public's benefit, insists on a high rent. The Government should be able to help the Saith Seren to buy the building."
