Successful Meeting at Millennium Centre

Canolfan y Mileniwm A very successful and well attended meeting to discuss the need for a new Welsh Language Act was held last night at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff. There was a positive response from all the Welsh opposition parties, and a consensus was reached specifically on the need for official status and equal rights for the Welsh language, and an independent Language Commissioner.

The meeting signified a fundamental step forward, and it follows the Welsh Language Board's recent document that called for changing Welsh language legislation. Cymdeithas yr Iaith's Campaigns Officer, Dafydd Morgan Lewis, said:"The meeting serves as a good foundation for Cymdeithas yr Iaith to go ahead over the next few weeks to meet the political parties in order to ensure that the need for new legislation on the language forms part of the manifestoes of all the political parties in Wales."
