Support for musicians' strike

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has declared its support for a number of Welsh musicians as they go on strike for three days.Bethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith said:"Not only do we want powers for broadcasting transferred here to Wales but we want a Welsh model that prioritises and makes the most of our communities. We are currently calling on a cross-section of politicians and people within the industry to support our calls by singing our declaration. The fact that Wales is considered a region within the broadcasting industry still raises issues such as these. Devolving powers for broadcasting would mean Wales would be taken seriously.""The BBC should support Welsh music. Paying musicians through PRS (The Performing Rights Society) means that Welsh language musicians are receiving up to 35 times less money than English language performers, this is disgraceful. It also makes it very difficult to make a living out of performing through the medium of Welsh, which means less Welsh music for audiences."
