BBC Welsh cuts show S4C not safe

bbc-s4c.jpgWelsh language campaigners have claimed the BBC's decision to close down its online sports service in Welsh shows that S4C wouldn't be safe in its hands.Menna Machreth, broadcasting spokesperson for Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg said:"How can we trust the BBC to look after S4C if this is how it treats its current Welsh language services? It's obvious that the BBC doesn't understand the needs of the language in the new multi-platform world - it would be a disaster for them to takeover S4C, given that the new media are vital for the future of the Welsh language.""This is the start of severe cuts to the Welsh language online services; we understand that more cuts to the online department are on the way. Radio Cymru has already been forced to cut hours because of the cuts. The BBC's 25% cuts to online services are being implemented across the board without considering the different linguistic needs in Wales."
