Cymdeithas Target Nick Clegg in Aberaeron

clegg-aberaeron.jpgMembers of Cymdeithas yr Iaith have targeted Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats and the Deputy Prime Minister on his visit to Aberaeron today. They have used his visit with the Ceredigion constituency to challenge him on the future of S4C and wish to ask him why the Liberal Democrats have sold out on this matter and betrayed the people of Wales.Bethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg who is amongst those protesting in Aberaeron today said,"Liberal Peer Lord Roger Roberts of Llandudno withdrew amendments to the Public Bodies Bill concerning the future of S4C when it was debated recently in the House of Commons. He did this without winning any significant concessions from the government on the future of the Welsh language channel.""It is quite obvious that neither Nick Clegg or the government he represents is prepared to listen to the views of the people of Wales on matters concerning S4C. It seems that he is not even prepared to listen to the views of Mark Williams the MP for Ceredigion or for that matter to the views of Kirsty Williams leader of the Liberal Democrats in Wales, who along with the leaders of the main political parties in Wales has written to Jeremy Hunt the Culture Secretary asking him to authorise an independent review of Welsh language broadcasting before any decision is made regarding the future of S4C and Welsh language broadcasting."Bethan Williams added:"If Nick Clegg refuses to listen to members in his own party, we hope that he will take full advatage of the opportunity he has today to listen to Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg."
