Energy company E.On's comments - our response

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has responded to energy company E.On's comments about providing Welsh language services.

Bethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg said:

"The company is trying to alarm and confuse people: a number of energy companies already provide some degree of billing in Welsh. The same argument was used against Welsh language road signs, and it's clearly utterly false. Communicating in Welsh is an essential part of providing services in Wales. Cymdeithas believes that everyone, whatever their background, has the right to live their life through the medium of Welsh. The Welsh language now has official status in law, unfortunately it appears that some ignorant companies haven't
realised that yet - it's time they kept up to date with Welsh affairs. "
