The online chatting application Skype will be available in Welsh from today,thanks to the voluntary translation work of some Welsh language activists. The news comes on Shwmae Su’mae Day, a day to encourage individuals to use and celebrate the Welsh language they have every day. The day is organised  by Mudiadau Dathlu’r Gymraeg (Celebrating Our Language), an umbrella group of 25 organisations that work to promote the language at grassroots level every day.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has presented a party invitation to Terry Davies, Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council and Chris Byrne, Deputy Leader of the Council. The invite is to a party at the Council's unit on the National Eisteddfod field in Llanelli next August. The event, which Cymdeithas expect to attract up to 1000 people, will be designed to celebrate the County Council's new strategy for the future of the Welsh language and Welsh-speaking communities in the county.

In giving evidence to Carmarthenshire County Council's Census Task Group, a delegation from Cymdeithas yr Iaith told the council that there needs to be a total change of course in policies if the Welsh language and communities are to live and thrive in the county.

  Business came to a standstill in Marks and Spencer's  Carmarthen store  for half an hour this afternoon (Saturday 3rd of August) as members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith refused to pay for their shopping.

The flagship M&S store in Carmarthen town centre was encircled today by Cymdeithas yr Iaith supporters holding up a string of 200 pairs of pants to show what they thought of the company’s language policy. Hazel Charles Evans told hundreds of town-centre shoppers and Cymdeithas members that the company had reneged on its commitment to make its Carmarthen store a flagship for the full use of the Welsh language in its business.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith's message to Council Leader For the first time since founding the Council in 1996 a meeting was held today (Wednesday 26th of June) between Carmarthenshire County Council leaders and members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith. The meeting was held following the release of Census results where Carmarthenshire saw the biggest fall in the number of Welsh speakers of all counties.
