In its response to Ynys Mon's Consultation Document on the proposal to close Ysgol Llanddona, Cymdeithas yr Iaith accuse the Council of collaborating in a scheme to turn Welsh-speaking rural communities into quiet Retirement Zones for those moving into Wales. Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has responded to the news that Minister Leighton Andrews has rejected the language standards proposed by the Welsh Language Commissioner.  The society fears the Minister has given in to pressure from the private sector and other lobbyists to weaken Welsh language services.  Responding to the news, Robin Farrar, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg commented:

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have called upon Powys County Council to withdraw immediately its threat to close the Welsh-medium village school in Carno, claiming that  any such action would be an “unprecedented assault on a community and on Welsh-medium education”. The proposed “receiving school”, Ysgol Llanbrynmair, could accommodate less than half of the 46 pupils of Ysgol Carno and so the community of children would be split up.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh Language Society) has welcomed the success of local members campaign after Merthyr Council launched a partly bilingual website, but have expressed concerns at the lack of Welsh provision by the council in other departments.

Today (Saturday 2nd Febrary) 500 gathered to re-create Cymdeithas yr Iaith’s first protest, and to insist that they can live their lives in Welsh, 50 years to the day since the language group’s first protest.

Despite the wintry weather, over people 500 from all parts of Carmarthenshire came to the County Hall in Carmarthen on Saturday January 19, 2013 to sign the Pledge "I want to Live in Welsh" and hear some of Carmarthenshire's prominent people saying why they were signing the pledge. Among them was film and TV actor Julian Lewis-Jones who said:
