As an Advisory Panel on the Welsh language in Carmathenshire is set to meet on Monday 6th of October Cymdeithas yr Iaith has called for future meetings to be public meetings.

Reacting to the announcement that Mark James intends to leave his role  as Chief Executive Officer of Carmarthenshire County Council,  Cymdeithas yr Iaith have sent a message to the leaders of the three  political groups of councillors asking that this be "the end of an era".

Language campaigners have raised questions about the review of the curriculum commissioned by Education Minister Huw Lewis, following a meeting between the academic leading the research and a deputation from Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has written to Carmarthenshire County Council to ask about a language forum that was due to be set up this month. The language pressure group has not heard about the forum and have raised a tongue-in-cheek question with council officers - “is our invitation lost in the post?”.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has complained to European football's governing body UEFA after Sky's decision to abandon Welsh language commentary for Welsh national football games.    At the start of August, the language group called for a tax on companies like Sky in order to fund Welsh language broadcasting. Officials from the society will also raise the issue with Members of Parliament in meeting in London tomorrow.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has accused the NatWest Bank of ignoring Welsh-speaking communities following their decision, announced today, to close a number of branches in Carmarthenshire and Dyffryn Teifi - including Llandysul, Llanybydder and Hendy Gwyn (Whitland). The information was conveyed to customers in an English-only circular letter from Huw Thomas, the "Local CEO" of the NatWest, who urged customers to turn to the bank's English-language online banking services or to the Post Office.

Less than two years after the number of Welsh speakers fell below half the county's population Cymdeithas yr Iaith has noted its concern that Ceredigion County Council is considering cuts to its investment in Welsh.

There should be a tax on advertising to fund a new Welsh language broadcaster that would operate on radio, television and online, according to a discussion paper  launched by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg today.
