In light of Pembrokeshire County Council's decission yesterday to accept recommendations regarding changes to education in the north and south west of the county, Bethan Wiilliams, area officer of Dyfed for Cymdeithas yr Iaith said:
"We are glad that the County Council has taken parents' and pupils' comments into account during the consultation and is willing to consider them further; however we are eager to see the plans moving forward and are looking for clarity on a few issues. For example - there is no language category noted for the 3-16 school that is proposed to be created in place of Ysgol Dewi Sant, Ysgol Bro Dewi than Ysgol Solfach. That could mean that post 11 education would be in English, which would be a problem as Welsh primary schools such as Croesgoch are feeder schhols for Ysgol Dewi Sant.
"Cymdeithas yr Iaith want to see all schools gradually moved along a linguistic continuum, towards becoming Welsh schools. There is an opportunity here to do that - and we will raise it again in the next stage of consultation."
The recommendation agreed to by Council:
(a) To note the findings of the statutory consultation undertaken during March to May 2015 as described in the Consultation Report, and to terminate part (a) of the proposal of Council on 29 January 2015;
(b) To note the following modifications to part (a) of the proposal of Council on 29 January 2015: which will be the subject of consultation with the Trustees of the Tasker Milward and Picton Charity and considered by Council in September prior to any statutory consultation:
Discontinue Sir Thomas Picton School and Tasker Milward VC School and establish a new 11-16 English Medium secondary school with additional ALN provision for pupils with complex learning needs on the site of the current Tasker Milward VC School;
Re-designate Ysgol Bro Gwaun as a 11-16 school and to provide additional ALN provision for pupils with complex learning needs;
Discontinue Ysgol Dewi Sant, Ysgol Bro Dewi VA and Solva CP School and establish a new 3-16 Church in Wales Voluntary Aided School; site arrangements to be determined prior to statutory consultation in discussion with the Diocese;

Discontinue Ysgol Gymraeg Glan Cleddau and establish a new 3-16 Welsh Medium / bilingual school on the site of the current Sir Thomas Picton School. Post 16 provision to be provided at Ysgol y Preseli.
