Less than twelve hours after clokading Council Education officers in a car park outside a threatened village school (Mynydd Cerrig), Cymdeithas yr Iaith have taken further action against another controversial decsion by Carmarthenshire County Council.

50 Members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith and the Carmarthenshire Primary Schools' Forum blockaded 3 Carmarthenshire County Education Officers into a Community Car Park outside Ysgol Mynyddcerrig last night (Thursday 08/06/06) following the statutory Consultation Meetings with parents and governors about the threatened school's future.

Tomorrow (Friday 9/6/06), an important meeting will be held between Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg and representatives of the Conservative Party to discuss the need for a New Welsh Language Act.

This afternoon, at Cardiff Magistrates Court the hearing against Cymdeithas yr Iaith member Angharad Blythe was postponed until August 2nd because she had received an English only summons.

This Saturday (June 10), a special ceremony will be held in Aberystwyth to honour Eileen Beasley's contribution to Welsh life. This is the woman who is widely acknowledged as the Rosa parks of the Welsh language movement.

At 1pm today, outside of the Cymdeithas yr Iaith Stand at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Rhuthun, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg will be launching a National petition calling for a New Welsh Language Act.

The Welsh Language Board today announced their response to the Consultation Paper regarding the union of the Language Board with the National Assembly. Their response emphasises that the 'Dyfarnydd' which will take the Board's place is a body of inefficient status and power.

We were saddened to hear that two Welsh-speakers were banned from speaking Welsh in the Big Brother House. It seems non sensical to invite two natural Welsh speakers to the house, and then ban them from using their first language.

Members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg quizzed Culture Minister Alun Pugh at the Welsh language Forum in Swansea last night. During the period of consultation by the government regarding the pulling in of the Welsh Language Board, members called for a new Welsh language act, and drew the minister’s attention to the New Welsh Language Act Festival in Aberystwyth on June the 10th.

At 12.30 PM nine members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg were arrested for chaining themselves to the froont door of the old Welsh Office building in Cathays Park. The protesters decided to chain themselves to this government building to draw attention to the need for a new Welsh language act.
