At 2 o’clock today a New Welsh Language Act Protest-rally will be held on Queen Street, Cardiff (Near the statue of Aneurin Bevan). The aim of the rally is to review all the different campaigns of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg that have highlighted the need for a new Welsh Language Act.

On Saturday, December the 3rd, the direct action campaign by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg was officially brought to a close. The announcement was made in the Welsh Language Act Rally held in Carmarthen.

This morning, at Cardiff Magistrates Court, the Judge that was presiding over the case against two members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith (Welsh Language Society) refused toaccept the Assembly Government’s call for compensation.

Cymdeithas' new call for Welsh speaking communitiesAt 10.30am tomorrow mourning (Thursday 24/11), members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith will be launching their new ‘Welsh is Essential’ proclamation, by raising it on various public bodies in Aberystwyth, Carmarthen and Bangor.

Owen John Thomas AM, Plaid Cymru spokes-person on the Welsh Language, is expected to attend Cardiff Magistrates Court this morning to voice his support for four members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg who will be appearing before the bench because of their involvement in Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg’s direct action campaign for a New Welsh Language Act.

A Message from Steffan at the CourtI’m extremely pleased that the Court found me not guilty. I’m a member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith which is a non-violent organisation and the protest held at the Radio Carmathenshire studios back in 2004 was a non-violent protest.

At 7.30 o’clock this morning, Tuesday the 15th of November, a further two members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg were arrested for painting a slogan on the walls of the Welsh Office in Cathays Park, Cardiff. This is the sixth in a series of direct actions drawing attention to the need for a New Welsh Language Act.

At 8.30 am Friday November 11th Gwyn Sion Ifan from Bala became the latest member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg to be arrested for painting slogans calling for a Welsh Language Act on the walls of the Welsh Assembly Government building in Cathays Park, Cardiff.
