To celebrate the opening of the new Assembly building, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg unveiled a billboard aimed at Rhodri Morgan today, calling for a New Welsh Language Act. AM's Leanne Wood and Owen John Tomos joined Cymdeithas members in the unveiling ceremony.

When First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, attends a Labour Party meeting at Penparcau Memorial Hall tomorrow night he will come face to face with Gwenno Teifi who was imprisoned last week for refusing to pay a £200 fine arising from the Society’s campaign for a New Welsh Language Act.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg have strongly criticised the conclusion of the Public Enquiry held into Ceredigion Council's Unitary Develpoment Plan. Cymdeithas believe that the perception of the inspectors - Mr Alwyn Nixon a Ms Stephanie Chivers - shows a basic failure of the present planning system to efficiently deal with the needs of the Welsh Language.

Up to a 100 supporters were at Aberystwyth Train Station at 3pm today, to welcome Gwenno Teifi back to Wales, after a Spell in a Gloucestershire jail.

Aberystwyth Railway Station will be the scene of a noisy and colourful homecoming meeting for Prisoner Gwenno Teifi at 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday 15/02).

Gwenno Teifi, a 19 year old member of Cymdeithas yr Iaith, was sentenced to 5 days in prison (Gloucester) by Carmarthen Magistrates Court today. Gwenno Teifi, from Llanfihangel-ar-arth is a first year student at Aberystwyth University College. Gwenno was sentenced at exactly the same place (Carmarthen Guild Hall) where her Grandfather, Gwynfor Evans', great by-election victory was announced 40 years earlier.

A very successful and well attended meeting to discuss the need for a new Welsh Language Act was held last night at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff. There was a positive response from all the Welsh opposition parties, and a consensus was reached specifically on the need for official status and equal rights for the Welsh language, and an independent Language Commissioner.

On Tuesday the 24th of January in Cardiff Millenium Centre a public meeting will be held to consult on the need for new legislation for the Welsh language. The meeting follows a period of political discussion and consultation with political parties.

A hearing in Carmarthen's Magistrate Court was disrupted today when 25 members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith occupied the room when it became clear that it wasn't possible to conduct the case through the medium of Welsh.
