Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg have supported calls by Joan Bernat MEP by writing to all Wales’ MEP’s, asking them to also show their support and to vote for Joan Bernat’s recommendations.

This morning 75 representatives from 12 schools together with Merched y Wawr and the FUW came to the County Hall Carmarthen to give messages of support to Mynyddcerrig School's fight for its future. Each representative brought a stone from their own area to build a mound of stones in front of the County Hall as a further contribution to the consultation process on the school's future.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith has called for the company Arad Consulting to be forced to repay the fee which it received for preparing a report on the way forward for Welsh-medium higher education.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has welcomed a series of amendments by members of the National Assembly's opposition parties to a motion by the Labour Government that states that the Assembly should not introduce statutory responsibilities which are outside the remit of the present Welsh Language Act of 1993.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have publicised the fact that Carmarthenshire's Director of Education, Vernon Morgan, has yielded to demands to extend the 'consultation period' over the future of Ysgol Mynyddcerrig in the face of a substantial campaign to secure the school's future.

Representatives from the Farmer's Union of Wales and 10 other village schools as well as Cynwyl Gaeo's Councillor have pledged their support for the fight to save Ysgol Mynyddcerrig. They will deliver the message of support at a Protest Meeting outside County Hall at 9.30am -Wednesday 12th of July in advance of a meeting of the full Council.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have accused Carmarthenshire's Education Officers of being 'up to their old tricks' by once again attempting to stop any county-wide debate about their controversial 'Modernising Educational Provision Strategy' which could lead to the closure of up to 40 Welsh-medium village schools in the County.

Today (Saturday, June 10) at its National Festival – held at the Great Hall in Aberystwyth’s Arts Centre – Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society) will call on all the Assembly’s opposition parties to join forces in order to make sure that the Labour Government responds to the need for a new Welsh Language Act.

Less than twelve hours after clokading Council Education officers in a car park outside a threatened village school (Mynydd Cerrig), Cymdeithas yr Iaith have taken further action against another controversial decsion by Carmarthenshire County Council.

50 Members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith and the Carmarthenshire Primary Schools' Forum blockaded 3 Carmarthenshire County Education Officers into a Community Car Park outside Ysgol Mynyddcerrig last night (Thursday 08/06/06) following the statutory Consultation Meetings with parents and governors about the threatened school's future.
