Carmarthenshire County Council have contacted the staff and Governors of Ysgol Mynyddcerrig village school today to advise them that the school will close for the last time at the end of the summer term this year.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has sent a list of 59 private companies to the Welsh Language Board which in the opinion of Cymdeithas should have a bilingual policy. This follows the appointment of Ifan Evans as a full time director with the Board, with responsibility for the private sector.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg have strongly criticized today's announcement by Culture Minister Alun Pugh, that he is in consultation with 59 organisations in Wales regarding adopting a Welsh language policy.

At the Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society) Annual General Meeting held at the Morlan Centre Aberystwyth yesterday (Saturday March 10th) Hywel Griffiths was elected as Cymdeithas chair for 2007 – 2008. Hywel is 23 years old and a postgraduate student at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the Morlan Centre Aberystwyth on Saturday March 10th 2007. Probably the most important motion under discussion involves the large sum of money left to Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg in the will of the late Howell Lewis. At the moment Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg have recieved around £400,00 from the will.

The Cymdeithas yr Iaith(Welsh Language Society) Entertainment Team are pleased to announce that Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog will be headlining the second ‘Taith Tafod’ Tour in April. Also supporting them will beYucatan and Mr Huw as the tour visits every corner of Wales.

On Saturday 24 February Gwyn Sion Ifan, Sel Jones and Huw Jones will travel to Belfast on behalf of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg to attend a demonstration for an Irish Language Act for the north of Ireland, and to show their support to the 160,000 Irish-speakers in the north. The Society has already sent an official message of support to the demonstration organisers.

Twenty Cymdeithas yr Iaith members stood outside Ysgol Penweddig on Thursday night, to welcome First Minister Rhodri Morgan to Aberystwyth. Holding up posters they called on the Labour Party in its forthcoming Manifesto for the National Assembly to give a comitment that it would introduce a New Welsh Language Act.

At 10.30am on Wednesday the 3rd of February, members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh Language Society) will present a petition to the National Assembly, signed by over 10,000 people supporting a New Welsh Language Act.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith (The Welsh Language Society) has accused Carmarthen's Education Officers of adopting a cynical 'Divide & Rule' attitude in their mission to close Welsh-medium village schools and create bureaucratic centralised education.
