Carmarthenshire County Council Planning Officers are to recommend that thePlanning Committee (meeting at 10.30am Thursday 30/8 at County Hall) approve an application for 52 new houses in the village of Porthyrhyd thus doubling the size of the village.
Over a 100 people attended a protest by parents and governors outside County Hall Carmarthen between 8.30am and 10am this morning (Monday 23 July) ahead of Carmarthenshire Council's Executive Board meeting. Members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg were there supporting the protest.

Gwenno Teifi was sent to Eastwood Park Prison (Gloucester) for 5 days this morning, for refusing to pay a £120 fine for painting a slogan calling for a New Welsh Language Act on the window of Brantano's store, in Aberystwyth last October.She was sentence by Carmarthen magistrates this morning.
Cymdeithas yr Iaith has rejected the findings of a BBC Opinion Poll which purports to show a majority opposed to a Language Act which would require private corporations to make full use of Welsh. Cymdeithas claim that opposition from 63% of those questioned was due to the choice of the emotive word "force" by the BBC.
