In response to the report 'S4C's Vision 2012 and beyond' published by S4C today, Bethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg commented:"This report confirms what we as campaigners have been predicting since last year. People in Wales are going to receive a significantly worse service because of the 94% cut to S4C's government grant.

Language campaigners have climbed a transmitting station today (Thursday, June 23) to broadcast videos through their mobile phones outlining their fears about the future of broadcasting in Wales.According to Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, if current plans to cut S4C's budget and a BBC takeover of the channel continue, there's a risk nothing will be broadcast in Welsh.

Campaigners and union members have held a lobby outside a meeting between Chris Patten new Chair of BBC and Assembly Members in Cardiff Bay concerning the future of Welsh broadcasting (17.30 (June 22).Last autumn the BBC agreed to take financial control over S4C as part of a deal which would mean a 40% cut in real terms in the channel's budget.
