A CUTE children's TV character life will hang in the balance as the campaign to save S4C reaches the Urdd Eisteddfod today (Tuesday, 31st May).Cyw, a cartoon chick, and other children's cartoon characters will be chased around the festival field by the Tory Minister, Jeremy Hunt during a protest organised by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society).

A new Welsh language television channel will go live at the Urdd Eisteddfod today (Monday, 30th May) to raise awareness of the threat to S4C's future.The volunteer-run channel, called "Sianel '62", will be launched by broadcaster Angharad Mair at the Welsh Language Society (Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg) tent and will be online during the festival week.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg has responded to news that S4C is establishing a voluntary redundancy scheme for its staff.Bethan Williams, Chair of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg said:"This is just the start. The enormous cuts proposed by the Government put the future of S4C as an independent channel in doubt. If things don't change soon, there won't be enough staff left to sustain an independent Welsh language TV service, and the BBC will takeover the channel lock, stock and barrel.
